Chicago - 8pm March 28, 2009

Chicagoland opened its eyes to climate change on Saturday night, turning out the lights to make a statement and call for a new direction.

Earth Hour Chicago was a huge success. For one hour, Chicagoans took a visible stand against climate change, joining cities and individuals across the globe.

From skyscrapers in the Loop to fashion centers on the Magnificent Mile... from the stadiums to the museums... from apartments to homes... from the lakeshore to the western suburbs, Chicago turned out for Earth Hour.

The lasting impact of Earth Hour's success is not just what happened for one hour on Saturday night. It's what Chicagoans do next, every day, to use save energy and water, to minimize waste and maximize recycling. Small steps add up.

So pat yourself on the shoulder, Chicago. You made Earth Hour a big hit.

Visit worldwildlife.org/climate to find out what you can do throughout the year to fight climate change, and check back to earthhour.org soon for details on Earth Hour 2009.
